1. Each of you will work on a team of two. You will both decide who will take on the role of shopper and who will take on the role of banker.
**The shopper will be responsible for following Jack's shopping list. The shopper will also be responsible for filling out a portion of the gift spreadsheet that details all items bought, any web address,the original price of the item, any discount amount, the sale price, the tax amount, any shipping and handling fees, and the final price of each item. **The banker will be responsible for checking all of the shopper's spreadsheet entries and calculations and discussing and correcting any possible errors. The banker is also responsible for calculating the total amount spent and saved columns on the spreadsheet as well as making sure the shopper stays within the $250 budget.
2. Once you have determined who will be the shopper and who will be the banker, each team member will watch the following videos. Just click the links below to learn how to calculate tax and discount.
3. Now you will each print a copy of the worksheet below. Work together to complete the following worksheet on discount and tax and turn into your teacher: Worksheet
4. Your teacher will now conference with you to check for understanding on the concepts of discount, and tax. You will be given a chance to ask your teacher questions at this time about this webquest.
5. Now it is time to begin searching for just the perfect gifts for Jack's family. Each time you select a gift, you will fill in that item's details on the gift spreadsheet.
6. Each time the shopper selects a gift and fills in a row on the gift spreadsheet, the banker must check all calculations for errors. All calculations must be agreed upon before selecting the next gift. Attach your completed spreadsheet and email to your teacher when you are finished. One per team. Put your names and "spreadsheet" in the subject line.
7. Finally, be creative in how you present your gift proposal to Jack. Remember, he is in Iraq, so it will have to be via the internet. What will you create to send him all the details of your gift selections? Send your gift proposal to your teacher's email address for grading! Put your names and gift proposal in the subject line. One submission per team.
8. Gift Proposal Requirements: a. Include a picture of each gift and who it is for. b. Include all cost statistics about each gift taken from the gift spreadsheet. c. Your proposal must be original, creative, neat and well organized. d. Complete and email your proposal to me by the due date. g. Present your proposal as a team to the class. h. Each team member must be prepared to explain smoothly and correctly how you found each calculation on the spreadsheet. I will ask you each several questions to check that you have both learned this concept.
9. Lastly, you will each complete a quiz over finding discount, tax, and sale price to show what you have learned. Print this quizwhen you are sure you understand all the parts to this webquest.
